What is a Performance Solution Report?
A Performance Solution is a compliance solution method for the Performance Requirements outlined within the Building Code of Australia (BCA). It was previously referred to as an Alternative Solution and provides an alternative means of compliance outside of the Deemed-to-Satisfy provisions of the NCC.
Buildings must achieve a level of compliance set out in the performance requirements outlined within the BCA. Compliance can be achieved by either meeting the Deemed-to-Satisfy provision or a Performance Solution. Performance Solutions allow for flexibility in satisfying the Performance Requirements of the BCA. It is an alternative method of achieving compliance when the Deemed-to-Satisfy provisions cannot be met.
As of 01 July 2021, the use of the Performance-Based Design Brief (PDBD) was mandated in the BCA Performance Solution formulation process. The PDBD is a document that is developed in collaboration with key stakeholders as part of a proposed performance-based design and approval process. When completed, the PBDB becomes the platform upon which the proposed design and Performance Solution Report is constructed and approved.
Performance Solutions are contained within a Performance Solution Report, which is to be approved by a building surveyor, thereby meeting the Performance Requirements. Performance Solutions Reports can also be used in combination with Deem-to-Satisfy Solutions to meet the Performance Requirements of the BCA.
Performance Solutions can often be the simplest, most efficient, and cost-effective means of achieving compliance with the Performance Requirements of the BCA.
